The Low Down on Mini Cruises

? April 4, 2013Posted in: Cruise Cuisine, Europe, Short Breaks

Martin Tanner Product Manager and Cruise Expert from Jetline Cruise gives us the low down on Mini Cruises.

What is a ?mini cruise? in a nutshell?
A Mini Cruise is a short duration cruise of between 1- 5 nights on a regular cruise ship where you can expect exactly the same range of facilities , quality of food? and standard of service? that can be? experienced on a regular cruise.
?
At Jetline Cruise, we always recommend that you try a 4 or 5 night cruise so that you can really settle into your trip and enjoy yourself. We find that our customers say that a 2 or 3 night trip just isn?t long enough to really experience the relaxing and luxurious nature of a cruise. On any cruise the first night is usually spent settling in to your ships surroundings and the last is usually spent preparing to disembark and travel home early in the morning on the following day. .
?
A great first time trip would be the P&O?s Oceana which departs 7th June. From just ?299 a person for 4 nights ? the cost of a city break ? you can enjoy a full board trip to Belgium and Guernsey including use of all facilities and entertainment on board ship. You?ll have plenty of time to wind down and enjoy all the benefits that the Oceana has to offer.
?
Why would you choose a 2 or 3 night cruise over a 7 night one?
A First-time Cruiser is sometimes tempted by a 2 to 3 night cruise to dip their toes in the water as it were. It?s a great, good value way to try cruising, but make sure you do your research beforehand and make sure you really make the most of your time on-board.
?
We would much rather recommend you go for a 4 or 5 night trip so that you really have time to wind down and relax (for the reasons stated above)
?
The trouble with booking a 7 night cruise is that in the unlikely event you don?t enjoy the cruising lifestyle, you are stuck on the ship for 7 days. So for first time cruisers a 4 or 5 night cruise satisfies both eventualities and also suits the pocket far more than a 7 night cruise.
?
What is a cabin like on a mini cruise? Are they really small?
Mini Cruises are so called due to the number of nights spent on board the ship and not the size of the ship ? ?Miniature? cruise ships do not exist ! Therefore Staterooms on a mini cruise are no different to those during a regular duration cruise. As with all cruises and cruise ships there are a huge variety of stateroom grades to choose from? ? such standard interior staterooms with en-suite facilities on a low deck all the way? up to penthouse suites? with butler service and panoramic? balconies on a high deck. Make sure you check online beforehand to see pictures and get a feel for what to expect. Some of the cruise lines? websites even have a virtual tour for you to go on.
?
What is the food quality like on a mini cruise?
Again, it?s the same as a regular cruise: there is no differentiation between a regular and mini cruise. You?re likely to find a choice of at least 4 or 5 restaurants on a mini cruise with wonderful cuisine for the most discerning of palates.? Most cruise ships have food available almost 24 hours per day plus you can choose between self service buffet style dining and waiter service from an A La Carte menu. Room service is usually free of charge too!
?
What entertainment is there on a mini cruise?
Cruise Lines offer a wealth of entertainment, from nightclubs and bars, to world-class shows and acts. All cruise ships have a casino on board and most have a piano cocktail bar, some offer lectures, quizzes, karaoke, dance classes, acting classes, martini mixology, fencing lessons and cookery classes. Others offer the latest feature films (FREE of charge) either in your stateroom , in a cinema or at night under the stars by the pool. Unusual features on some ships include bowling alleys, ice skating, rock climbing, surfing and glass blowing.
?
Family friendly ships will make sure the kids are catered for with separate age specific kids clubs, water parks, water slides, burger bars and video games arcades. Some even offer FREE of charge child-care . At the same time these family friendly ships will also have adult only pool areas too!
